Golfer’s Elbow

Golfer’s Elbow, or Medial Epicondylitis, is a condition causing pain and tenderness on the inner aspect of the elbow, at the medial epicondyle of the humerus. It results from inflammation or microtears in the flexor-pronator muscle group of the forearm due to repetitive stress or overuse. Unlike Tennis Elbow, which affects the outer elbow, Golfer’s Elbow involves the tendons responsible for wrist flexion and forearm pronation.

Causes and Risk Factors

  • Activities involving repetitive wrist flexion or gripping.
  • Sports like golf, baseball, and weightlifting.
  • Occupational tasks such as typing, carpentry, or manual labor.
  • Poor technique in sports or repetitive hand movements.

Symptoms

  • Pain and tenderness on the inner side of the elbow.
  • Stiffness or discomfort when making a fist or flexing the wrist.
  • Weakness in the hand and wrist.
  • Pain that worsens with lifting, gripping, or forearm rotation.

Physiotherapy Management

  • Effective management focuses on reducing pain, restoring function, and preventing recurrence. Our treatment approach includes:
  • Pain Management: Use of ice therapy, ultrasound, and TENS to reduce inflammation and discomfort.
  • Manual Therapy: Techniques to improve soft tissue mobility and decrease muscle tension.
  • Targeted Exercises: Gradual strengthening and stretching exercises for the wrist flexors and pronators.
  • Activity Modification: Strategies to minimize aggravating movements and improve technique.
  • Supportive Devices: Use of braces or straps to reduce strain on the affected tendons.
  • Education: Training on proper ergonomics and progressive return to activities.

Goals of Physiotherapy

  • Alleviate pain and inflammation.
  • Restore full range of motion and strength.
  • Improve daily function and sports performance.
  • Prevent recurrence through education and conditioning.

Our Approach:

Our comprehensive rehabilitation programs for both Tennis Elbow and Golfer’s Elbow are designed to ensure effective recovery, allowing you to resume your daily activities and sports with confidence and minimal risk of recurrence.
